While being a beautiful native grass that symbolizes Oklahoma’s rich history of strength and commitment to long term growth, Switchgrass proved to thrive in the harsh growing conditions of Oklahoma. As a native perennial grass, it’s long been recognized as an important component of the productive tall grass prairie plant community that dominated much of the Great Plains over the millennium. Interestingly, native tribes used the strong Switchgrass for construction of homes and other building projects, proving it can persist under Oklahoma’s tough climate.

So, the name just fit.
